Hey! this is Silverdove 8 year camper and this year SECOND year elf!! I love DDC sooo much!! My favorite camp memory is when we had rain last year. We were session 3 and on Tuesday it started POURING!! it was soo much fun even though all of the adults wern’t on board all of the campers had a lot of fun. I was in butterfly and we had to have 2 other units in their with us. Thanks to our awesome games guys the girls got to have rainy day water balloon launchings and they had to set up a tent with one of those parachutes in the center of the meadow. Yet the hive was able to keep up the campy traditions with ultra sugary snocones. WEEEEEEEEEE!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE CAMP!!!!!!!!!

I teach archery at DDC. I remember one year a group of Ants was due on the range. I watched as they walked out slowly, trying to hide behind one another, looking at the targets, then looking at the bows, wondering if they were real, wondering if they were really going to shoot arrows.
After the initial introduction we got the girls on the shooting line, there was one adult or elf helping each Ant. The first arrows barely flew, the next were better, then better again till all the arrows were gone. The Elves retrieved the arrows and it was time to shoot one more round.
The girls were more confident, they were loading the arrows onto the bows and standing tall, their arrows were hitting the targets.
I watched this same group of 6-year olds walk off the range. They walked confidetly, heads up, proud of their accomplishement.
This is why I teach archery every summer.

I have so many great memories of camp, but my proudest include watching my older daughter progress from a camper to Elf, Elf trainer to adult leader. My youngest daughter’s growth from a tag to an Elf trainer for her peers has been wonderful to watch. A portion of her Gold Award was completed in 2010 at camp. 9 or 10 girls of our Ambassador troup have been Elves and the great leadership opportunities that the DDC Elf program provides has helped them all excel in high school: 3 Gold Awards, 12 years together, and all graduating in the one hundredth year of GS! In 2007 (Hogwart’s week) my niece was able to attend for her first time at any camp, my younger daughter was a first year Elf , my older daughter was an adult unit leader & I took the summer off from camp:)
I was a better leader as a result of all things Girl Scouts I learned and practiced at camp.
